Tribe bounce back in style

THE national men’s Australian Football League side bounced back from a loss to Ireland to a massive 208 point second round win against Indonesia in the AFL International Cup in Australia.

The Fiji Tribe scored 32 goals and 16 behinds (208) points and prevented the Indonesians from scoring on Wednesday.

AFL Fiji national coach Myke Leahy said the win was because of the disciplined play of the Tribe.

“There is always the temptation to get over-excited against a weaker opponent and try to stand out as individuals, but the Fiji players maintained their structures and stuck to the game plan of running in support of each other,” he said.

“The results of this discipline showed on the scoreboard, particularly in preventing the Indonesians from scoring any points.”

The Fiji Tribe would be up against Great Britain tomorrow to determine where the team will be positioned for the semi-finals next week.

The Fiji women’s team — the Fiji Vonu — faces Canada tomorrow.
