It’s important to provide a conducive platform for Fiji filmmakers to sharpen their skills because it will encourage and strengthen the growth of the film industry here, says Finance Minister Professor Biman Prasad.

Prof Prasad said at the launch of a locally-shot and produced movie Langha Phobia at Nakasi’s Life Cinema last Friday, that Fiji was becoming a preferred production location in the world.

He said a key priority of the Government was the development of local talent through education and training.

“Fiji is becoming one of the preferred production locations in the world as Fiji is well-known for its islands, sea life, culture and heritage,” Prof Prasad said.

“Films articulate a universal language and connect people across culture, nationality, age, social and economic standings.

“The Government has been providing substantial support to our universities to nourish local talent, arts and skills development through various programs and courses offered. The new National Development Plan is the people’s plan as it represents the views and aspirations of our people and their call to uplift their socio-economic well-being.”
