The Bula FC team is currently undergoing a tough and intense two-week training camp at the Fiji Football Academy in Ba ahead of the inaugural OFC Professional League which is set to kick off in January.

According to head coach Stephane Auvray, the focus is on building strong foundations in athleticism and technical skills to meet the demands of pro-league football.

The squad has been put through two training sessions a day, with a heavy emphasis on running.

Auvray emphasises that endurance is crucial for players to remain competitive at the OFC Pro-League level.

The intensity of the sessions has left many players feeling sore.

“They are adapting, they are tired. They are not used to this kind of work rhythm, the running is quite painful for them,” he said.

However, Auvray has explained to the players the importance of these sessions and how the hard work will pay off during the long OFC football season.

“I’ve explained to them that by the time February and March come, we should have built strong endurance with the ability to repeat efforts, which is really important for us,” Auvray explained.

He added that stepping into the pro-league requires a shift in culture and mindset, where standards must be consistently raised.

Auvray is impressed with the professionalism shown by his current squad. Despite a few constant reminders during training, he is satisfied with the team’s commitment.

Bula FC will kick off their campaign against United FC of Vanuatu in the opening match of the OFC Pro League on January 17 which will take place at Eden Park.
