The Fiji National University’s (FNU) National Training and Productivity Centre says the 53 students who successfully attained the Plumber General Class III qualification recently, underscored its ongoing commitment to skills development within Fiji’s workforce.
Graduates included workers from Tropik Wood Industries Ltd in Lautoka, Fiji Airports and the Water Authority of Fiji’s Nadi depot.
NTPC’s Trade Testing officer, Richard Gaunavou said FNU and NTPC “are here to support you throughout your careers with Technical, Vocational, Education, and Training (TVET) programs that empower individuals to enhance their skills and opportunities”.
Two of the graduates from the Water Authority of Fiji were women, exemplifying the increasing participation of women in technical trades.
One of them, Lanieta Taka, said achieving this qualification was a significant milestone for her.
“It means a lot to my mother, who has always been my pillar of strength,” Ms Taka said.
“I am grateful to WAF for supporting my participation in this training, which has helped me upskill myself.
“It has also motivated me to pursue further certifications, including Class II and I courses.”
The oldest graduate, 55-year-old Etonia Qoro, a technical assistant at WAF, said he was grateful that his employer provided him with opportunities to upgrade his skills.
“Despite my age, I now hold a university-level qualification, a dream achieved through dedication,” he said.
Sowani Sito, 30, an employee of Tropik Wood Industries Ltd, previously earned a Certificate in Plumbing and Sheetmetal from Naceva Campus in 2016, spoke about the importance of ongoing education.
