DEVELOPMENT works on the Seaqaqa and Nabouwalu township project has progressed well.
Vishwa Deo of the Macuata District Office said the Nabouwalu project had incurred a cost of $2.4 million while $31,000 had been used for works in Seaqaqa.
Mr Deo informed the President, Jioji Konrote, during a briefing on his recent visit to the North that works in both areas started last year.
“For Seaqaqa, the groundworks have started and it continues as we work on lease arrangements,” he said.
“At Nabouwalu, the township development work has progressed well and we are waiting for preparation of survey plans and other things. The actual construction work at Nabouwalu started last year.”
Seaqaqa development committee president Mohammed Khan described the development work as an urgent need for the cane belt area. “Our population is growing but the facilities remain the same,” he said.
“However, we are grateful to the Government for developing Seaqaqa because we need to expand our businesses. We have not been able to do that because of the absence of sewerage facility which we have been told will be built with the project.”
Mr Khan said they had met officials from the Ministry of Local Government.
“Our meeting was very fruitful and we are keen to work with them in turning Seaqaqa into a town.”
