INTERNATIONAL tourists who frequently visit Fiji resorts are a booming business for the country’s tourism industry.
Recognising the impact of returnees on the industry, Fiji Hotel and Tourism Association president Dixon Seeto said returnees were a testament to the service offered not only by a particular resort but also by the country for tourists.
“The repeat business is an important part for the industry and I think it makes up for about 50 per cent of our arrivals,” Mr Seeto said.
“I think that a returnee to a particular resort in Fiji is also income earned not only for that particular resort but also for the country.
“For some resorts, they have guests that have returned more than 30 times, which I think is a good thing,” he added.
“The returnee traffic is growing and I think they are our best marketing tools.”
Mr Seeto said efforts by resorts to ensure their environment was protected were also an important marketing tool.
“For some resorts to revert to renewable energy like solar power is important because we have guests that are very environment-conscious and they like to go for a holiday at a resort that share similar views.
“We have to commend resorts that are making sure that their environment remains pristine and protected.
“One of the important aspects of this industry is sustainability, and again, this is a great marketing tool in which we show that our environment remains clean and vibrant.”
