Fijian President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere says tourism is one of the major drivers of Fiji’s economic growth and the country’s largest reserves of foreign exchange and earnings.
He noted this when he officiated at the recent official opening of the refurbished Sheraton Fiji Golf & Beach Resort in Nadi.
Ratu Wiliame says the tourism sector employs thousands of Fijians and it is rewarding to see the tourism workforce back on track.
“As more international market continues to open, we are certainly optimistic about the future,” Ratu Wiliame said.
“Our national carrier Fiji Airways connects us to the rest of the world.
“In a recent announcement, an additional direct flight from Adelaide from July 4 is exciting and presents more opportunities for us to extend the reach of our unique Bula spirit.
“The timeless beauty of Fiji is more attractive to visitors than ever after two years of not being able to travel.
“They come to our shores to experience our pristine uncovered beaches, world-class luxury accommodation, natural flora and fauna and adventure explicit images of the warm tropical weather.”
The President also acknowledged the support of both the Fiji National Provident Fund and Marriott International for helping rebuild Fiji’s tourism industry and the local economy.
