FIJI Water Flying Fijians kicking coach Seremaia Bai feels a focus on physical readiness and team cohesion is important following their opening Pacific Nations Cup win against Samoa.
Fiji will take on the Ikale Tahi in its next match in Tonga on September 6.
After an impressive victory over Samoa, the Flying Fijians are now shifting their attention to their next challenge in Tonga.
“We started off well against Samoa with just a few days of preparations.
“We were aware Samoa, just like Tonga, will bring in the physicality,” Bai said.
Bai highlighted the team’s dynamic lineup, featuring several new and young players eager to prove themselves on the international stage
“A lot of changes in the team, a lot of young players.
“We have two really good fly-halves, Frank Lomani and Caleb Muntz. They are world class and we have other potential players,” Bai explained.
The blend of local Drua players and those based overseas is beginning to pay off, with Bai noting improved chemistry and teamwork within the squad.
“The boys have started to gel well together. Drua players and overseas based players, they have started to gel well.”
“All teams are building and for now, we will focus on Tonga. Playing in Tonga, it will be tough, and once we come back, then we focus on Japan.”
As the Flying Fijians continue their Pacific Nations Cup campaign, they are determined to maintain their momentum and sharpen their strategies against a formidable Tongan side.
The Flying Fijians take on Tonga at 3pm next Friday.
