The 2025 OneLove Touch Rugby tournament turned King Charles Park in Nadi into a platform for change last Saturday, using the power of sport to speak out against drug abuse in Fiji.
Held under the theme “Fight against Drugs in our Beloved Fiji,” the event brought together teams, families, and supporters with one goal to promote a healthy, drug-free lifestyle and create a safer future for young people.
The Men’s Open grade, sponsored by Vinod Patel, saw Raiwaqa Insydout claim victory and take home $1500 after defeating Elementz Fiji in the final.
Elementz received $800 as runners-up.
In the Mixed Open grade, sponsored by Elementz Project Management, Eastern Hawks took the title and $1500 in prize money, while 2Fresh Touch Rugby Suva settled for $800.
2Fresh Touch Rugby also walked away champions in the Mixed Masters grade, sponsored by Decked Out Fiji.
They defeated the Taki Mai Legends and received $1000, while the Legends took home $500.
In the under-14 division, backed by Stone Masonry Service, Raiwaqa Flyers beat Wesley City Roosters to win $500.
The Roosters finished second and earned $200.
Suva Touch Rugby Association president Danielle Keli said the tournament was more than just a sports event, it was about unity, inclusion, and positive change.
“Touch rugby is for everyone, it doesn’t matter your age, gender or background,” Keli said.
“It’s non-contact and family-friendly. That’s what makes it special and welcoming for all.”
She said the tournament also helped guide young people toward better choices.
“We want to keep our youth active and connected,” she said.
“Events like this create awareness, promote healthy living, and bring communities together through sport.”
Meanwhile Suva Touch will host its second round on July 19 at Albert Park
