Police Constable Jekope Viaviaturaga says he joined the force to help bring positive change to his home village of Loa in Buca Bay, Cakaudrove, where he grew up witnessing numerous police raids.

After receiving the Baton of Honour as the top recruit of the latest Fiji Police Force intake, PC Viaviaturaga said becoming a police officer was never part of his childhood ambitions, but this was Gods purpose for him.

He said his decision to join the force was influenced by his experiences growing up in a community affected by criminal activity and drug-related issues and hoped his achievement would inspire positive change in his home community.

“I want to dedicate this award to my family and also my wife, for her support, love and care throughout this training,” he said.

“I am proud to become the first police officer in my family, where in the sixth of 10 siblings.”
