BOXING Commission of Fiji (BCF) chairman Adi Narayan has voiced his disappointment after the Ministry of Youth and Sports advertised his position last week, despite his term not ending until July 31.

Narayan said that he was surprised by the move, as the Minister had earlier informed him that the advertisement would only take place closer to the end of his current term.

“Our term doesn’t expire until July 31, so I don’t understand the rush to advertise now,” he said.

The early advertisement has caused confusion among stakeholders and the public, with many asking whether Narayan plans to step down.

He reassured everyone that he intends to continue in his role and that a stakeholders’ meeting will be held soon, which will be open to the press for questions and clarifications.

In another serious issue, Narayan spoke out about a former board member who was suspended last year over allegations of misusing more than $1,200 in commission funds.

Despite this, the fomer board member has reportedly been appointed to a position within the Ministry of Sports.

Narayan claimed he reported the matter to the Minister last year, but nothing is yet to be done.

He further claimed that the board has evidence of the misappropriation and is considering next steps, including possible legal action.

Attempts to get a comment from the Minister of Youth and Sports Jese Saukuru on these issues were unsuccessful, with calls and messages unanswered.

The Boxing Commission of Fiji board plans to meet soon to discuss how to move forward and address these concerns.

This situation highlights ongoing governance challenges within the Boxing Commission and raises questions about accountability within the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

More updates are expected after the upcoming stakeholders’ meeting.

Meanwhile, the first boxing promotion of the year is scheduled later this month at the Vodafone Arena in Suva.
