The best of the best in the Major and Super grades of Suva Netball Association’s competition will engage in what is expected to be a rigid and power-packed finale tomorrow.
Super Grade: Lomaiviti Maloi Green v Grasshoppers Gold
Meanwhile, in the Super grade, Volahiga said both finalists showed a consistent performance throughout the season.
He added he expected the final between the two to be an equally contested one.
For the Grasshoppers Gold team, he described them as underdogs.
“This is an underdog team, it’s actually the first time for the team to make it to the finals but they’ve been very consistent through the season,” he said.
They will feature captain Elenoa Gukirewa, who was once a New Zealand based player whose versality in the court makes her a formidable utility player.
Lomaiviti, on the other hand, is making another appearance in the finals, which will see them facing their new opponents tomorrow.
“So it’s going to be a very exciting match and so much for the two teams, they (have) prepared so much,” Volahiga said.
Men’s Grade finalists: TIKI Tui v Lomaiviti Maloi Green
In the Major (men’s) grade, Tiki Tui will face Lomaiviti Maloi Green on Court 2 of the National Netball Centre at 2.45pm.
For the Super grade, Lomaiviti Maloi Green meets Grasshoppers Gold on Court 2 at 4.40pm.
The association’s secretary Lepani Justice Volahiga said the fixtures for the men’s finale would be a tough one to call.
“The match is expected to be very fierce and too early to predict who will win,” Volahiga said.
He highlighted Lomaiviti as a team made up of experienced players who have even represented Fiji on platforms such as the Pacific Mini Games for instance.
Lomaiviti’s men’s team appears in the finals alongside their counterparts in the Roses, Princess, Development, Super and Queens grades.
17 of their teams were registered this year with 11 reaching the semi-finals.
For the Tiki Tui team, he said they were a team filled with new players who were young, frisky and agile.
The team, which is part of the TIKI Sports Club, also has a mixed netball team appearing in the final of the Mixed grade against the Tagimoucia Phoenix.
Some of the players in the two teams had participated for Fiji in the Men’s Invitational Netball Tournament held at the Vodafone Arena in Suva earlier this month.
Meanwhile, the finals tomorrow mark the end of 12 weeks of competition for Suva Netball.
