Fiji Kulas head coach Angeline Chua is putting a strong focus on defense as they prepare to face Tonga in their second pool match of the 2025 OFC Women’s Nations Cup today.
In their opening match against Solomon Islands, Fiji secured a narrow 3-2 victory, but Chua acknowledged that the team had a shaky start.
The team will be looking to build on their previous performance in this important Group B match.
On the other hand, Tonga will be seeking its first win after suffering a 3-0 defeat to Vanuatu in its first match on Saturday.
Chua emphasised the importance of rotation in the team, with five games to play and a full 90 minutes on the field.
“We have five games and playing on 90 minutes, so you will see a lot of rotation we want to give a chance to all the players to play on the field,” said Chua.
“It is unfortunate, Trina Davis will not be playing, she’s feeling sick and is in good care, and we wish are a speedy recovery to join the team again soon.”
She added the strategy against Tonga will involve rigorous training sessions to keep the substitutes motivated and prepared for the match.
Chua also called on fans to keep supporting the team.
The match against Tonga will kick off at 7pm today at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
