iTaukei Lands and Fisheries Commission chairman Apimeleki Tola has finally been arrested and now behind bars.
Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed yesterday that Mr Tola was handed over to the Fiji Corrections Services.
“Apimeleki Tola was handed over to the Fiji Men’s Correctional Centre, Natabua,” she said.
Last week police confirmed a bench warrant was issued for him after the Lautoka Magistrate’s Court handed down a nine-month committal sentence in absentia when Tola failed to appear for sentencing.
Ms Naisoro said the warrant followed convictions for assault and damaging property, offences committed in October 2022.
Magistrate Shelyn Kiran delivered the sentence in Tola’s absence.
