ATHLETICISM, charity and wellness have been the catalyst for the Rexona Suva Marathon, which was officially launched in Suva yesterday.
The marathon, scheduled for Saturday, August 8, is expected to gather high participant numbers when it sets off on the day.
Competitors will have the chance to take part in five categories: the individual marathon, the individual half marathon, the individual 10 kilometre event, the team marathon for social league and for the business league.
Registration fees for the race in these categories include $70 per person for the individual marathon, $50 for the individual half marathon, $15 for the individual 10km race, $50 per person for the social league team marathon and $80 for the business league team marathon.
Registrations for the event opened yesterday and is available on the online ticket platform Ticketmax.
The team marathons in both leagues will have four players per side.
Yesterday, the event’s launch held at the office of the Motibhai Group of Companies in Walu Bay, Suva, was attended by senior representatives of the Motibhai Group, including director Jinesh Patel, Munro Leys lawyer Richard Naidu, and representatives of WOWS Kids Fiji.
WOWS Kids has become the charity partner of the marathon for this year and its board director Kimberly Smart welcomed the move to have them on board.
The marathon, organised by the Suva Marathon Club, aims to celebrate community, health and active lifestyles.
The club continues to champion the event being an avenue for it and welcomes runners above the age of 14 to compete when the day arrives.
