The iTaukei Land Trust Board (TLTB) said it has achieved a significant milestone in its efforts to recover outstanding lease payments, reducing national rental arrears by $9.6 million, from $31.6 million on January 1, 2025, to $22 million by June 30, 2025.

This 30.45% decrease in just six months underscores TLTB’s commitment to ensuring iTaukei landowners receive their rightful income from leased native land, said TLTB.

“This achievement reflects TLTB’s firm commitment to fulfilling its legal obligation of collecting rent and ensuring that landowners receive what is rightfully theirs,” said TLTB Chief Executive Officer Solomone Nata.

Despite the progress, TLTB remains concerned about long-outstanding arrears, some dating back 10 to 20 years, spanning all lease types.

The Board has warned that failure to settle these dues will lead to stringent legal enforcement, including utility disconnections and land repossession as ordered by courts.

As of June 2025, 534 arrears cases are in court, with an additional 765 cases being prepared, totalling $4.7 million in unpaid rent.
