The iTaukei Land Trust Board is owed “just above” $27million in land rent areas by its tenants.

TLTB interim CEO Solomoni Nata said as of January 1 this year, some 26,987 tenants out of the total 52,263 TLTB tenants were not paying their rent on time and were now in arrears.

“While TLTB is trying its best to assist tenants with security of their tenancies during these difficult times, they must perform their obligation and pay their rent on time as these will go to the landowners who have denied themselves from using their land during the term of the lease,” Mr Nata said in a statement.

“Tenants who may be facing difficulties to settle their dues must also visit our nearest TLTB office to make appropriate arrangements as to when they can fully settle them rather than sitting quietly and doing nothing about it.”

He has advised all their tenants whose accounts are in arrears to clear all their dues.

“Not paying land rent is a clear indication of tenant’s complete disregard of their legal obligations as tenants of TLTB.”

All TLTB rent payments can be made at any TLTB offices, post offices, MH’s, Max Value or any of the bank’s outlets in Fiji; and the lease agreement requires that rent is to be paid on January 1 and July 1 every year or they be marked as arrears.
