The iTaukei Land Trust Board (TLTB) has obtained eight court orders to vacate tenants who owe rent to TLTB.
TLTB issues leases for agriculture, residential, industrial, commercial, and special leases and didn’t state which type of tenants are facing eviction or where they are located.
TLTB said it was owed $28.1 million at end of February and the number of tenants in arrears were 25,444.
“Over the past two months, we have strengthened our rent collection strategies and will continue to do so, including legal action against defaulters,” said TLTB in a statement.
“As part of this initiative, eight court orders to vacate have already been secured, signalling TLTB’s firm stance on ensuring landowners receive their rightful dues.”
“We urge all tenants with outstanding arrears to settle their payments immediately.”
“Failure to do so will result in court action, which may lead to disconnection of utilities, repossession of land titles, and evictions.”
