The iTaukei Land Trust Board (TLTB) has stepped up enforcement efforts in the North-West Region, carrying out a major operation in Lautoka last Friday. .
As part of the operation, the TLTB team disconnected electricity and water services for accounts in arrears, recovering over $32,000 for landowners.
According to the Board, four court orders were successfully executed, with two additional orders to dismantle houses built on leased land where tenants have failed to pay rent.
“This initiative reflects TLTB’s unwavering commitment to protecting landowner rights and ensuring legal compliance across all leases,” the Board said in a statement.
TLTB reminded tenants that timely rent payment is a legal obligation and warned that continued non-compliance will lead to legal action.
“Failure to do so will result in legal action,” the statement said.
“We are committed to assisting tenants through structured payment plans and encourage affected individuals and businesses to visit or contact the nearest TLTB office to discuss options.”
The Board emphasized that while its legal duty is to collect rent and ensure landowners receive fair returns, tenants also have a responsibility to honor their lease agreements.
“Let’s work together to resolve outstanding payments and avoid court proceedings,” the statement said.
