THE much-anticipated Marist Brother High School interhouse athletics concluded yesterday at the HFC Bank National Stadium in Suva, marking a significant milestone in the school’s preparations for the upcoming Suva Zone Two meet and the renowned Coca-Cola Games.

Over the past five weeks, the school has embraced a rigorous house training program, allowing each house the privilege to groom their athletes for this pivotal event.

Antonio Robuiliku, the school’s athletics team coach, shared insights on the build-up to the interhouse climax and the road ahead.

“For the last five weeks, we’ve been doing house training and giving the houses the privilege to prepare their own athletes. Today, we enjoyed whatever they brought to the Marist Athletics funding. We call it this funding because it involves all our families and ex-scholars coming together to be part of this competition,” Robuiliku explained.

The interhouse day serves as a critical benchmark for the school’s athletic standards, and while the coach expressed satisfaction with the performances thus far, he also highlighted the need for intensified efforts.

“We are satisfied with what we see, but it means we will really have to pull up our socks. Next week marks the first week of training for the school team, and from the Marist team, we really have to step up because the standard we’ve seen today is not that high. We’ll wait for next week to see how well we can move up the ranks,” said Robuiliku. Looking ahead to the Suva Zone Two meet and the Coca-Cola Games, Robuiliku emphasised the school’s strength in field events.

“Marist is always formidable in our field events. Right now, we are concentrating on those, especially our throwers. Our track athletes are not favorites, but we have strong throwers and jumpers.

Last year, our throwers claimed two gold medals, so we are banking on that success,” he stated. Robuiliku concluded by extending heartfelt thanks to the Marist family for their unwavering support over the past five weeks.

“We want to thank all the Marist family for supporting the boys. By next week, we will select our Marist team and start training for the Zone and the Coca-Cola Games,” he said. As Marist Brother High School moves forward, the focus is clear: hone strengths, elevate standards, and aim for excellence at the upcoming prestigious meets.
