TALENTED Queen Victoria School utility backline player Timoci Tavatavanawai has his eyes fixed on wearing the famous Fiji rugby jumper.
The Naikawaga flyer from Namara, Tailevu, was outstanding at this year’s Fiji secondary schools ruby competition helping his school hoist the coveted Deans Trophy.
Upon his recent return with the Fiji under-18 team from New Zealand, Tavatavanawai said his ultimate target was to represent the country in rugby.
He said he had been offered rugby scholarship to study and play in New Zealand, but his focus was to secure a spot in the national team.
He would be the first from his village to represent Fiji.
“My aim is to represent Fiji and I will work hard to fulfil my dream,” said Tavatavanawai.
“Even though I have been offered rugby scholarship to play and study in New Zealand, my target remains the same as I want to play for the Fiji 7s or 15s team.
“As for the scholarship, I am still considering my options and I want to make the best decision to suit my dream.”
Fiji schools head coach Josaia Rokomarawa said Tavatavanawai was one of the standout players during their matches against Australia and New Zealand.
He said he adapted well on the wing as well as at outside centre,” said Rokomarawa.
“He is a strong player and created many opportunities for his teammates during the tour. In the game against Australia, he made a strong tackle on his Australian counterpart that saw the Australian boy being lifted out from the field of play. Tough defensive player with speed to burn,” he added.
