ORIGINALLY from Nataleira Village in Dawasamu, Marica Bole says she’s long been connected to the ocean and its resources.
Now married and living in Silana Village, just a few metres from her home village, she remains deeply tied to marine life.
Mrs Bole emphasises the vital role the sea plays in sustaining their livelihood.
“It provides fresh fish daily, contributing directly to our nutrition and overall well-being,” she said.
Mrs Bole highlights that for her family, the ocean is more than a resource, it is a foundation for healthy living, food security, and the preservation of their traditional way of life.
She explains that besides benefiting from the sea, her family also saves money by maintaining their own plantation.
Mrs Bole shares that growing their own food reduces daily expenses and limits the need to buy produce.
She encourages readers to start planting their own crops to save money, time, and become more self-sufficient.
