A YEAR One student Abigail Ana Tukila Scott of Toga District School in Nausori won the school’s best costume (creativity) prize on Friday during World Book and Copyright Week character parade.
She was wearing costume (dress, hairband, bangle, slippers, earrings, and a purse) created using The Fiji Times newspaper.
Abigail’s mother Akanisi Tamanivalu said they chose The Fiji Times because it was “a newspaper that people valued”.
“When they (teachers) said to me to dress your kid in something that you can create yourself, the first thing that came to my mind was The Fiji Times,” Ms Tamanivalu said.
“People read The Fiji Times newspaper everyday because it has latest news and articles.
“This is a newspaper that all people of all age groups love to read, and it has brought people together as well.”
This year’s theme for World Book and Copyright Day was “The role of literature in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)”.
