RUGBY fans can anticipate an intense showdown as the Skipper Select XVs team gears up to take on the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua in a historic rugby match aimed at bridging the gap between Fiji’s provincial talent and the professional level.
The Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) revealed that Subrails has signed on as the official sponsor of the Skipper Select XV for the event, showcasing their commitment to fostering the growth of rugby in Fiji.
This highly anticipated clash marks a significant step in connecting grassroots rugby with the elite professional level.
Fiji Rugby CEO Koli Sewabu expressed his gratitude towards Subrails for their dedication to this groundbreaking match.
“We thank Subrails for being part of this historic match between the top players from our provincial competition who are anticipating their encounter against Fiji’s Super Rugby Pacific team,” said Sewabu.
“The match between these two teams provides a window of opportunity for our local provincial Rugby players a chance to showcase and gauge their skills against a professional setup.
“This is more than a Rugby match as it sets a precedent for our provincial players in the Skipper Cup and Subrails Marama Cup in the not-so-distant future, closing the gap between our grassroots and elite pathway programs. We are proud to have Subrails with us on this journey.”
Subrails has been actively involved in Fiji Rugby’s growth, recently sponsoring the women’s provincial competition, the 2025 Subrails Marama Championship, which showcased exceptional talent. The Skipper Select XV is set to take on the Drua on February 6, 4pm at Churchill Park in Lautoka.
