Despite being a newcomer to the political arena, New Generation acting party leader Varinava Tiko claims “people” have rated his party “almost equal to Biman Prasad, Savenaca Narube and Viliame Gavoka”.

When quizzed about his line-up to the 2022 polls, he said they would announce their party candidates “at the right time”.

“I am keeping my door and options opened,” Mr Tiko said.

“With all that’s happening with these other parties, there are possible scenarios that could happen.

“What if SODELPA gets suspended again or The People’s Alliance gets suspended, I want to keep that door open for MPs in those parties, should they decide to come over.”

Mr Tiko said once he had chosen candidates, it would have closed the door for other potential candidates.

“Some of these current MPs are very good people but they just need a good, structured and principled leadership.

“Why I am saying this is because politics without principles destroys parties and governments, and as we see today what’s happening in The People’s Alliance and SODELPA, this reflects the type of leadership and the organisational structure.

“There are MPs in there who are very competent but unfortunately they are stuck in there.”

He said he was “very confident” in his party’s plans.

“People have rated us almost equal to Biman Prasad, Savenaca Narube and Viliame Gavoka.

“People talk, we are reaching out on social media and 70 per cent of our voters are below 40.

“We do not underestimate ourselves as a new party, we know what we are doing, we’ve got the message and it’s appealing to the people.

“We still have a few more months and I am very confident.”
