A 24-YEAR-OLD woman died at the Ba Hospital over the weekend after she was involved in a three-vehicle collision along the Kings Rd.
Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said the accident occurred at 7pm on Saturday at Varoka, Ba.
“An accident involving three vehicles resulted in a 24-year-old woman sustaining injuries,” she said.
“She was rushed to the Ba Hospital but later passed away.”
In another accident on Thursday, a 28-year-old truck driver was crushed to death when the truck tumbled over three times off a road along the Sigatoka Valley near Keiyasi.
The driver, Javed Ali, was driving a 10-wheeler truck carrying gravel when the vehicle went off-road.
His mother-in-law Saira Bi said Mr Ali died at the scene of the accident.
She said the 28-year-old was rushed to the Sigatoka Hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival. Ms Naisoro urged motorists and pedestrians to be more vigilant.
“As investigations continue, we are again pleading with motorists and pedestrians to be cautious and vigilant about their safety at all times.
“The awareness and safety advices are being issued constantly with reminders on almost every stretch of road on the need to take care while on our roads,” she said.
“Yet the almost daily reports of accidents are a clear indication that there are some who just do not care about their safety and that of others which is a major concern and these need to change if we are to avoid further loss of life and injury.”
