FIJI’S band of amateur boxers competing at the 2025 World Boxing Championships in Liverpool, England are focusing on three key areas where further evaluation is needed.

According to national coach Cam Todd, he said the three areas were their fitness, improvements in a technical aspect and mental strength.

“With all my team (members), our focus has been on fitness, improvements in the technical side and mental strength leading up to and including the bouts,” Todd said yesterday.

The three key areas are being worked on since he explained the national contingent to the Liverpool, England is filled with boxers who were inexperienced.

“Our Fiji team overall is very inexperienced compared to some of the competitors here at the Worlds (World Boxing Championships), because this is the largest amateur tournament.”

Such is the case for them that it has prompted the team to work their best and hardest.

“So we put a lot on getting them fit and strong, improving their technique but also getting them mentally prepared for the big occasion.

“It’s a very big tournament.”

The competition sees 540 boxers from 68 nations participating, with Fiji having five boxers taking part.

The five are Jone Davule, Semi Koroitukana, Josaia Veiqaravi, Aminiasi Saratibau and Sakiusa Narara. Davule is participating in the men’s 60kg category, Koroitukana in the 65kg category, Veiqaravi in the 70kg category, Saratibau in the 80kg category and Narara in the 85kg category.

The boxing championship began on Thursday, September 4 and will end on Sunday, September 14.
