Three separate earthquakes were recorded in northern Fiji within a span of just over three hours early this morning.

The first tremor was recorded at 3.37am this morning, registering a magnitude 3.5 at a shallow depth of 5 kilometres, located 71 kilometres northwest of Lekutu in Bua.

A second earthquake followed at 6.42am, measuring magnitude 2.6, also at a depth of 5 kilometres, approximately 75 kilometres north-northwest of Naduri in Macuata.

Just over 20 minutes later, a third tremor struck at 7.06am, again measuring magnitude 2.6 and occurring 5 kilometres deep, located about 4 kilometres northwest of Nakavika village in Seaqaqa, Macuata.

Seismology officials have confirmed that while the earthquakes were shallow, their magnitudes were relatively low and do not pose any immediate tsunami threat to the region.

Authorities continue to monitor seismic activity and have advised the public to remain alert, particularly in areas that may have felt light shaking. No reports of damage or injuries have been received at this stage.
