Three crowned at Nadi Open

SHAKEEL Pillay, Merelita McCarthy and Tomasi Tuivuna were standout winners of the Nadi Open, capping off a competitive and successful tournament at the Nadi Airport Golf Club over the weekend.

Pillay secured the men’s gross title with a score of 144, edging past runner-up Asish Chand who finished on 145.

In the ladies division, McCarthy claimed the gross title with 169, ahead of Amy Subam. Tuivuna impressed in the professional category, carding 68 to take the win over runner-up Waisake Vati on 69.

There were also strong performances in the nett divisions. New Zealand-based Suresh Mani took the men’s overall nett title with 133, followed by Sefo Atu on 136. For the women, Alumeci Bolakoro shone in her first open tournament, winning the nett on 117, with Mua Rawlinson taking runner-up on 137.

Tournament coordinator and Nadi Golf Club secretary, Heather Atu, commended the high turnout and standard of play.

“We had over 100 participants including professionals and juniors. It was a very successful tournament and a great weekend of golf played on a good course with great competition. Congratulations to all the winners and to everyone who took part,” she said.

The Nadi Open once again proved to be one of the key events on Fiji’s golfing calendar, showcasing talent from rising juniors to seasoned professionals.
