Thousands of devotees and members of the public witnessed the 98th year of firewalking ceremony at the Howell Rd Sangam temple in Suva on Sunday afternoon.
Led by head priest Prakash Sivan, about 150 devotees had subjected themselves to strict adherence of a series of rituals for the past week that allowed them to take part in the firewalking ceremony.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Prof Biman Prasad said last week Sangam temples were a source of inspiration and faith for all Hindus – not just South Indians.
“For Hindus, no building is more sacred than a Hindu temple. For the last 100 years, the temple has not only been a place of worship but has also provided the benefits of coming together as a community.”
