The most prevalent offence during the month of March was theft, at 306 cases, Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew said.

In a statement revealing crime statistics for last month, Mr Fong said items targeted included cash, mobile phones, televisions, laptops, liquor, electronic goods, and personal items including jewelry.

He said while all five policing divisions recorded a 5 per cent decrease in crimes for March, there were few areas of concern which required targeted divisional operations.

On a positive note, he said they recorded a reduction in illicit drugs cases last month, a reflection of police’s efforts in curbing the illegal drug trade.

The answers to addressing crimes, he said, lay within communities.

“Divisional police commanders are conducting their divisional operations with the aim of strengthening crime prevention initiatives through community policing.”
