RONALD Prasad’s journey from bus driver to business owner is a story of persistence and passion for vehicles.
He is the founder of Rewa Towing and Hiab Services in Nausori where his love for cars and trucks, inspired early on by his cousin, eventually became a reality.
Growing up in Lakena, Nausori, Ronald lived next to a junk car yard called Western Wreckers – a local hub for towing and motor parts. His cousin worked there, and as a child, Ronald would often tag along, pitching in whenever he could.
“I was that young boy tying chains to trucks, dreaming about one day running my own business with cars and trucks,” Ronald rcalls.
He gained hands on experience at Western Wreckers, learning the ropes with damaged vehicles. He knew starting his own towing business meant getting a truck and the right equipment but like many dreams, the costs were steep.
So, Ronald took a detour – he became a bus driver and spent 18 years behind the wheel. Still, the dream never left him.
With some help from a close friend who owned a trucking supplies company, Ronald finally bought his first truck worth $64,000.
“That support was a game—changer, without it turning this business into a reality wouldn’t have been possible,” he says.
Now, Rewa Towing and Hiab Services has grown to a fleet of six trucks, with Ronald employing more than three people, including his son Rohad, who’s started following in his footsteps.
They handle everything from semi-truck towing to buses and respond to all kinds of situations. Ronald knows the unpredictable nature of the job well. Emergencies often call them out—accidents, break downs, sometimes even fatal incidents.
“It can be stressful and demanding, especially dealing with difficult customers or bad weather, but we’re ready for anything,” he says.
Their work has taken them beyond just local roads—they regularly collaborate with police and fire stations across Nausori, Nakasi and Valelevu. The police are one of their big clients, which pushed Ronald to invest in more advanced Hiab equipment to handle heavy-duty recovery.
“We started with one truck, and now we’ve got six. With all the chaos and accidents that come with this business, somehow it all works out,” he says.
The company serves the community with everything from light to super-heavy-duty recovery, backed by specialised equipment and a commitment to get the job done.
