MAESTRO Waisale Serevi has done Fiji proud after being crowned the All Time Hong Kong 7s Greatest Player and the only Fijian named in the Hong Kong Magnificent Sevens team alongside Campese, Lomu, Rush, Cullen, Gollings and Zhiqiang.
Serevi led Fiji to many victories and to two Rugby World Cup wins and contributed immensely as player/ coach in our first IRB WSS title in 2005-2006.
No other coach has achieved this feat.
The player, who made his debut in 1989, wowed the world with his uncanny skills and famous goose-step.
Serevi was the darling of Fiji rugby and his contributions must at all times be acknowledged.
His religious beliefs and humility made rugby fans love him.
On the 40th anniversary of the Hong Kong, our national sevens team honoured Serevi by winning the final against the Kiwis.
His try against England in the semi-final of the 2005 RWC will be remembered for ever by many Fijians.
The try Serevi scored against New Zealand in the semi-final of the 2007 HK 7s was a class of its own.
It brought back memories of those good old days when we could rely on the master to make us win.
It is my dream to see Serevi team up with Ben Ryan as his technical adviser to the 2016 Rio Olympics. The world honours him.
I don’t see any reason why we should not include him as part of our preparations for a first ever gold medal victory at the Rio Olympics.
I wish Sir-revi all the best in his future endeavours.
