The Mahatma Gandhi Memorial High School intermediate boys 4×100 metres relay team produced a moment to remember on the track, dedicating their victory to trusted taper Apisalomi Saukuru, who ran with the team for the final time during the Coca-Cola Games Suva Zone One athletics meet at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva yesterday.
In a thrilling display of unity and determination, the MGM quartet rose to the occasion, delivering a performance that not only secured gold but also etched a lasting memory for the team both on and off the track.
It will be a race that goes down memory lane for the quartet as MGM went on to win both the girls’ and boys’ divisions after two days of dominant performances.
In the girls’ division, MGM dominated the medal tally with an impressive 31 gold, 14 silver and 12 bronze medals. Ratu Sukuna Memorial School settled for second place with six gold, two silver and three bronze medals, while Ballantine Memorial School finished third with four gold, five silver and eight bronze medals.
In the boys’ division, MGM continued their strong performance from the first day, to bag 21 gold, seven silver and five bronze medals. RSMS placed second with eight gold, seven silver and five bronze medals, while Dudley High School completed the top three with five gold, nine silver and 12 bronze medals.
