STRETCHING the length of three football fields, rising 53m above the waterline and weighing about 90,000 tonnes and 963 length in feet, Carnival Legend was berthed at the Kings Wharf in Suva, bringing thousands of tourists into the Capital City, last week.
Carnival Legend is a Spirit-class cruise ship operated by Carnival Cruise Lines. She was built by Kvaerner Masa-Yards which was a subsidiary of Kvaerner, in Helsinki shipyard, Finland, launched on December 17, 2001, and delivered to Carnival on August 14, 2002.
Eighty per cent of the vessel’s staterooms have ocean views and eighty per cent of those have private balconies.
She was the first Carnival ship to offer alternate dining options and an onboard wedding chapel. According to Pacific Agencies, boarding officer, Livai Volavola, Carnival Legend had 2596 passengers with 923 onboard crew.
He said the ship had last stopped at Port Denarau and was expected to visit Mare – New Caledonia when it leaves. Carnival Legend currently offers a seven-day cruise to the Western Caribbean from Tampa, FL.
Secure.carnival.com says, in 2013 Carnival Legend offered Europe cruises with a series of Baltic and Mediterranean from April to November. She then returned to Tampa to resume seven-day Western Caribbean cruises.
Carnival Legend is scheduled to move to Australia following the success of the Carnival Spirit, and will sail the Australian summer season effective September 24, 2014.
A major dry-dock refurbishment was undertaken in February 2014 to prepare and update the ship prior to sailing to Australia.Carnival Legend will be the second Carnival ship to feature Green Thunder, a unique at sea water slide and will sail seasonally from Sydney on 8-12 day cruises to the Pacific Islands from September 2014 to April 2015.
Replacing Carnival Legend will be her sister ship Carnival Pride which is currently based in Baltimore
