Textbooks for Tuvuca students

STUDENTS of Tuvuca Village School will not have to worry about missing school and begging their parents to buy their textbooks for this year.

This after some officials from the Ministry of Education, who had accompanied Commissioner Eastern Luke Moroivalu on a 19-day tour of the Lau Group, supplied the 36 students of the school with new textbooks.

School headteacher Navaulini Vasua said they received the free textbooks for the first time on Monday.

Mr Vasua said they were also grateful and counted themselves lucky since they were the first schools in the Lau Group to receive free textbooks from the government’s scheme.

He said for the past 12 school weeks, they had difficulty in covering all the eight syllabus since there was not enough textbooks and resources to cater for needs of student.

“After the distribution of the textbooks today (Monday), the children will now be able to have high chances of getting high quality education standards and won’t also have a chance to complain since they now all have a textbook each,” Mr Vasua said.

Year 2 student Sekope Vunivalu said he could not wait to go back home and relay the good news to his parents and show them the new textbooks.

Year 8 student Varanisese Talei said school work and activities given in schools would be much easier now since they had textbooks to refer to and guide them in their studies.
