The termite issue in Fiji has worsened.

Flick Hygiene executive director Mohammed Zakariah highlighted this during an interview at Lovu in Lautoka yesterday.

“When we actually rolled out the termite baiting system project two weeks ago, we went into houses and I would say it is really bad,” he said.

“It’s come to a point where all we can do is do a manageable approach because it is so widespread out to all the areas.

“That’s why we are coming in to create awareness and inform the public that this is a must – having a termite management system.

“Like how it was in Australia, they have a termite code before buying the house, they would get an inspector in to inspect the house and implement the termite management system.

“So, something similar needs to be done in Fiji as well because it is bad.”

Flick Hygiene has installed the termite baiting system to more than 200 houses in the western division since it started rolling out the program on October 19.

The pest management company had won a government tender to begin the Asian subterranean termites baiting program in Lautoka with 1000 houses listed from Bio Security Fiji.
