Tennis Fiji receives $30k

Tennis Fiji has received a $30,000 cash sponsorship from Extra Supermarket to support the 117th Fiji Open Championship which commenced on Wednesday at the Denarau Golf & Racquet Club.

This sponsorship is set to extend over the next two years.

The tournament features 118 players, including 37 international competitors, engaging in 231 matches across 35 events over five days.

Tennis Fiji president Romil Patel acknowledges Extra Supermarket for coming on board and sponsoring the event for the period of three years.

“Extra has given us $30,000 cash sponsorship and we are grateful they will be supporting us for three years.

“This Fiji Open is huge for us, it’s our Fiji Grand Slam and we thank all the associate sponsors who have also come in to help: Vodafone, Sheraton, Intercontinental, Motibhai Group, Jacks, Beach House,” Patel stated.

The tournament includes players from Australia, New Zealand, Samoa and Vanuatu, ranging from junior to senior grades, with a total of 60 junior players participating.

“We believe the junior grade is important for our development, they are the future of our sports.”

Day One of the championship was successful, with all matches proceeding as scheduled.
