Government has advertised the construction of a new bus stand in Rakiraki, with a sum of $500,000 allocated in the 2022-2023 National Budget for the project.
Tender documents released by the Fiji Procurement Office reveal the new bus stand will be constructed at its current location and on a piece of land that is currently used as taxi base in Rakiraki Town.
“The construction of Rakiraki bus station will enable residents in nearby areas to have constant transport system available at their door step and since the Government of Fiji is proposing the idea to upgrade the current Rakiraki bus station to meet its functionality,” states the tender document.
“The new development for Rakiraki bus station will serve the residents of greater rural areas due to population and need to promote transportation system which will increase the business sectors in towns and local municipal market.”
The new bus stand will have bus terminals, a ticket booth, restrooms, a grog bar, a taxi waiting area, outdoor seating and CCTV. Construction companies have until September 28 to tender for this job.
