SEX workers are most commonly contacted by their clients via telephone, the Integrated Biological and Behavioural Survey and Size Estimation of Sex Workers in Fiji: HIV Prevention Project report reveals.
The study, conducted from June 7, 2012, to August 25, 2012, involved 298 participants who were asked a series of questions, one of which was on how contacts with clients were made.
The study revealed overall, the participants were mostly contacted by clients via telephone (66 per cent).
The next most common method was to get picked up by their client (66 per cent) which was significantly more common for transgender workers (74 per cent) compared with female workers.
Other methods included being contacted through a taxidriver (18 per cent), a bartender or bouncer (14 per cent), through a kava shop (two participants), a neighbour and a friend (one participant) and for one sex worker, clients went directly to her home.
