THERESA Veitoyaki and Sereima Saladuadua have chosen to spend their holidays at the Valelevu market not to just earn an income, but to give their mothers a break from their business of many years.

The Year 13 girls of Jasper Williams High School have seen their mothers struggle to support them through market vending business.

“So we decided to give mum a break this Christmas season and we sell her produce instead and earn the money to support our families” Sereima said.

“My mum is a market vendor here in Valelevu and Theresa’s mum lives in Lautoka but through our initiative, we both help our mothers and families.”

The duo have been inseparable since the start of high school, sharing classrooms, exams, and dreams, and now their friendship has extended beyond school into real life lessons of responsibility and resilience.

Sereima is a boarding student at school while Theresa travels daily from her house in Lautoka.

Theresa says whatever little she earns from selling is sent to her family in Lautoka to help with groceries.

“I want to show my mother that I care so I send money home to help.”
