An 18-year-old man has died after a fire engulfed his family home in Nakaile, Tailevu, on Tuesday, with police confirming he was trapped inside his bedroom as the blaze took hold.
The fatal fire is believed to have originated in one of the rooms of the house, though investigators have not yet determined the exact cause.
In a statement, Fiji Police confirmed that joint investigations with the National Fire Authority (NFA) are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
The tragedy has prompted a renewed plea from authorities for the public to prioritise fire safety.
