LIKE any other team that will be participating in the Rugby World Cup in Japan in the next fortnight, communication is a vital factor that needs to be up to par during every game.

Flying Fijians specialist fullback Kini Murimurivalu said one of roles as a last man in the team was to oversee areas that needed strong defence, especially open gaps that can infiltrate their defence line.

“Watching the game against Tonga last week, I think the boys did pretty well,” Murimurivalu said.

“As a fullback, we need to work closely with the wings. What we are focusing on is communication and we need to work a lot on that because come game day, the noise level and pressure from the spectators will test our communication skills.”

As the team and the nation focus on the Flying Fijians’ first match on September 21 against the Wallabies, Murimurivalu, 30, is confident of a good outing if Fiji keeps possession throughout the match.

“I think the main thing for us is to keep the ball and play at our own strength. Giving away possession will be hard for us.”

He said after the match against Tonga, the players would try to impress the coaches for this two weeks in order to make the final cut against the Wallabies.

“Everyone will put their hands up now for the match against Australia and we all want to represent our country.”
