Despite not having a proper ground to train on, the Suva Primary School under-13 rugby team showed their dedication and passion for the sport by defeating John Wesley Primary School 22-0 in the round five of the Suva Kaji Rugby competition yesterday.
The team’s coach, Waisea Cama, has been with the team since they were in under nine, and he has witnessed their growth and development as a team.
Having only a quarter ground to train on at school, the team has had to make the most of their limited resources.
“I have been coaching this team since they were under nine, and now they’re under 13, they are used to playing together and work well as a team. Even though we only have a small training ground at school, we make the most of it and learn our tactics there, unlike other schools with big grounds, we don’t let it stop us from giving our best in both sports and academics.”
Coach Cama emphaised the importance of teamwork and how the boys worked together as a team unit on the field.
“The boys train every afternoon and their hard work paid off in our match against John Wesley Primary School, winning 22-0 shows how dedicated we are, even without a proper training ground, the John Wesley team has better facilities, but that didn’t stop us from winning.
“We are grateful for our win and will keep working hard for our next match.
“Our victory proves that teamwork and dedication can take us far.”
