Team Fiji weightlifters wastes no time

TEAM Fiji weightlifters had a two-hour training sessions in Thailand before heading to Ashgabat, Turkmenistan for the 2017 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games which starts on Monday.

“Members of Team Fiji weightlifting team wasted no time when they had a two-hour training in Thailand on route to Ashgabat, Turkmenistan,” Weightlifting Fiji secretary general Ritesh Ratiram said in a press release.

“This was organised with the courtesy of Major-General Intarat Yodbangtoey, the senior vice-president of International Weightlifting Federation and the Thailand Weightlifting Federation.

“Weightlifting Fiji executives had spoken to Yodbangtoey, in Gold Coast, about the 24-hour lay-over in Bangkok by the Team Fiji and made a request for him to facilitate this important training session.”

Team Fiji was represented by seven weightlifters which were Manueli Tulo, Arieta Mudunavonu, Maria Mareta, Patrick Tawake, Timoci Vakaruivalu, Apolonia Vaivai and Eileen Cikamatana.

“This was an important training session, as members of Team Fiji like Apolonia Vaivai and Manueli Tulo have to prepare for a back to back competition,” he added.

“The team will be joined by Eileen Cikamatana who is travelling to Turkmenistan, with other members from the Oceania Weightlifting Institute.”
