DOUBLE Olympic champions, Fiji, is through to the quarterfinals from Pool C after two convincing wins in the rugby sevens competition early this morning.
Fiji thrashed Uruguay 40-12 and later defeated the USA 38-12 in front of a record crowd in Paris.
They lead Pool C with six points from two wins and regardless of tomorrow’s result against France, the national side has secured a spot in the top eight.
The Osea Kolinisau-coached side is accompanied by SVNS league winners Argentina, Australia, Ireland and New Zealand.
Captain Jerry Tuwai while speaking to World Rugby said the first game is always important.
“The first game is always hard; our bodies were not that fired up yet. But we improved on that, and we also improved the technical stuff, like how to handle the kick-off.
“We were given the opportunity to play well. Team USA is a very good team. We respect them and we knew that coming to the game they would give everything.”
Fiji will face France tomorrow at 1.30am in Stade de France.
