A newly released track map from the Fiji Meteorological Service shows Tropical Depression TD11F is expected to intensify into a tropical cyclone while tracking away from Fiji.
The system, currently located to the west of the Fiji group, is forecast to move southeast and gradually strengthen over open waters.
According to the track, the system is expected to reach Category 2 intensity before further intensifying to Category 3 as it moves south of the country over the coming days.
The projected path keeps the centre of the system well offshore, passing west of Viti Levu before tracking further south toward open waters.
Despite no direct landfall expected, the system’s associated cloud bands and strong wind field are likely to continue affecting parts of Fiji, bringing heavy rain, gusty winds and rough seas.
Authorities continue to urge the public to remain alert and follow official weather updates as the system develops.
