Savusavu residents along the Hibiscus highway in Cakaudrove are counting their blessings after they were spared damage similar to that of Tropical Cyclone Winston in 2016.
Roberta Lepper lives about 20 minutes out of Savusavu Town and said that although the winds were strong, they were extremely lucky they did not experience the forecasted swells and storm surge.
“The winds were bad but there were no swells,” Ms Lepper said.
For those living along the coast, the swells and storm surges are the most dangerous and cause more damage than hurricane-force winds.
