Swire Shipping Fijian Drua prop Samuela Tawake is determined to elevate his game ahead of the 2025 rugby season.

With international experience, including stints with the FIJI Water Flying Fijians and New Zealand’s NPC competition, Tawake has outlined key areas for improvement.

He aims to strengthen his defence skills, focusing on tackling techniques and body positioning, while also enhancing the team’s lineout consistency.

Drawing from his roots in Vuma Village, Levuka, Tawake is optimistic about contributing to a successful season as the Drua strive for greater heights in Super Rugby Pacific next year.

Reflecting on his recent performances, Tawake stressed the importance of elevating his defence game.

“I want to make sure I’m giving my hundred percent in every tackle.

“It’s about getting my body position right, staying low, and being technically sound,” he explained.

His dedication to defence is part of a broader effort to be more impactful around the field.

Another key area of focus for Tawake is improving the team’s lineout execution, a critical component of the Drua’s game.

“One thing I really want to work on is our lineouts. It’s not just about the throws but ensuring consistency with our calls and execution. Maintaining a high lineout percentage throughout the season will be key,” he added.

The 28-year-old, originally from Vuma Village in Levuka with maternal links to Naisaumua, Tailevu, has built a reputation for his hard work and resilience.

His playing record includes a stint with Rugby United New York, where he gained further exposure to the fast-paced nature of professional rugby.

As the Fijian Drua look to build on their performances in the Super Rugby Pacific competition, Tawake is optimistic about the team’s potential.

“It will be a good season next year. The work we’re putting in now will make the difference,” he said confidently.
