Tavua FC striker Manasa Nawakula scored the winning goal in extra time to secure 1-0 victory in the Premier Division final against Nasinu FC at Churchill Park yesterday.

Tavua received a prize money of $6000 while Nasinu settled for $2000.

Both teams had a strong start, with Nasinu executing their game plan and maintaining a solid structure.

The match remained goalless at halftime and after 90 minutes, leading to 30 minutes of extra time.

In the first half of extra time, Tavua’s forwards capitalized on their chances, with Nawakula finding the back of the net to clinch the win.

Nawakula expressed his gratitude and dedicated the victory to the fans.

“I want to thank God for helping the boys, and secondly, I want to thank my teammates for their hard work, without them, I wouldn’t have scored the goal.

“This victory is for the Tavua fans, who have been waiting for this for a long time, and we dedicate it to the families of all the players,” Nawakula said.

Tavua’s main message during extra time was to remain hopeful and keep fighting.

Meanwhile, Nasinu head coach Jalindar Singh acknowledged the challenge and is looking forward to regrouping for next season.

“Tavua was a tough team and they scored. For now, we will go back and prepare for next year,” Singh said.
